Agreement inked to build 184-room hotel at Edmonton International Airport

EDMONTON – Edmonton Airports has signed an agreement with Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company to build a 184-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at Edmonton International Airport (EIA).

Reflecting steadily increasing passenger numbers and flight options at EIA, the new hotel provides business, connecting and Northern travellers with a vital new service that is standard at international airports worldwide.

“In customer surveys, our customers continually rank a hotel at EIA as their number one new service priority,” says Reg Milley, Edmonton Airports President and CEO. “We are pleased to partner with Concord Hospitality Enterprises to add a top-tier hotel brand to our suite of services at EIA.”

Connected by a covered, heated walkway to the EIA terminal, the new hotel will be located just to the north and east of the terminal. Final designs and construction schedules are in development, with construction expected to begin in the fall of 2006.

The Courtyard’s services include a business library featuring individual workstations with high-speed data ports and ergonomic chairs; a pantry-style, 24-hour “grab and go” food and beverage area called The Market; and a lounge area where guests can work, meet and dine in a relaxing setting. This particular hotel will have beautifully decorated and state of the art banquet and meeting facilities to serve groups of up to 200 people.

"Concord is very pleased to be a part of a project with Edmonton International Airport; it is exciting to work with one of the fastest growing airports in North America,” said Mark Laport, President of Concord Hospitality.

Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, was founded in 1985 as both a management company and as an active hotel developer. The firm owns and manages hotel properties located in 10 states and Canada yielding combined annual revenues of over $200 million (US). Concord’s current portfolio consists of 45 hotels, with a total of 5,631 rooms operating under such prominent brands as Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Springhill Suites by Marriott, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Radisson, and others.

The company manages the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Edmonton and nine other hotels across Canada – most in the Toronto area.

“Besides providing improved customer service, the Courtyard by Marriott will enhance EIA’s overall image as a world-class airport,” says Milley.

Edmonton Airports’ vision is: To be the North’s preferred gateway to the World, and the World’s preferred gateway to the North.
