John's Biography

John is the third generation of the Osborne family to work in the real estate industry in Edmonton and represents the first generation to specialize in investment real estate. After working with the family business, John struck out on his own with a brokerage business in the late 1970s. In 1980 he accepted a position with Oxford Developments in the development division. Later John accepted a position with Fidinam Canada and though this position had regional responsibilities, his office remained in Edmonton. When Fidinam sold its portfolio, John worked as a broker for a short period of time until a position at Morguard Investments was offered to him. He ran the Morguard Edmonton office for 12 years. John then went to work for Westcorp Inc followed by a five year position with Edmonton Airports.

During this time John maintained his brokerage license and continued his education through enrollment in real estate courses. In 2001 Falcon Realty Ltd. was created and in 2005 the company name was changed to JW Osborne and Associates Ltd. Hi-lights of John’s career include:

  • Chairman of the Downtown Business Association and Director of several other boards including BOMA Edmonton
  • AirLINKS Business Park including the RedTail Landing Golf Course, two land deals with Qualico and a Comprehensive Land Development Strategy
  • Negotiation of the lease agreement to establish the Champ Car race in Edmonton as well as the negotiation to extend the event several more years
  • Several land transactions with Edmonton Airports including the proposed Courtyard by Marriott at the International Airport and the Nova Inn at the City Center Airport
  • Introduction of a new retail and food and beverage program at the International Airport
  • Working for Morguard and with the Morguard REIT conversion
  • Working on a number of projects with Westcorp including College Plaza re-development and construction of Oliver Village
  • John has been active in his local communities and sports groups
